Fort McMurray is home to a diverse Muslim community, with many newcomers arriving for work, family, or safety. Adjusting to a new country and a fast-moving region like the RMWB can be overwhelming.
Markaz Ul Islam provides newcomer and settlement support focused on reducing isolation, helping people understand local systems, and connecting families to resources and community.
What we offer
- Orientation support: how to navigate Fort McMurray, community norms, and local services.
- Referral support: connecting to settlement agencies, language supports, employment resources, and health services.
- Community connection: introducing families to programs, youth activities, women’s circles, and volunteering opportunities.
- Practical guidance: how to access basic services, where to go for forms and appointments, and how to ask for help.
- Support for newcomers during Ramadan and Eid to reduce loneliness and build belonging.
- Advocacy-style support (informational): helping newcomers understand options and prepare for meetings with agencies.
