The We Care Unit is a program under Markaz Ul Islam that supports wellbeing through outreach, assistance, and mental health awareness in the Wood Bu alo community. The goal is to reduce barriers, fight stigma, and help individuals and families access support in a way that respects culture, faith, and lived reality in Fort McMurray.
We understand the unique pressures of the RMWB region: shift work, isolation, migration stress, financial cycles, and trauma from emergencies (including wildfire impacts). Our approach blends education, early support, and referrals to qualified professionals when clinical care is needed.
What we offer
- Mental health awareness workshops (stress, anxiety management, emotional regulation, coping skills, resilience).
- One-on-one support navigation: help finding the right service, booking appointments, and understanding what to expect.
- Family wellness programming: parenting support, intergenerational communication, cultural inclusion, belonging.
- Youth wellbeing initiatives: identity, confidence, social connection, prevention and early support.
- Community outreach programs that reduce isolation and create safe spaces for conversation.
- Partnership-based support with local agencies and volunteers to connect people to resources.
