PROGRAM 1

We Care Unit

Focus: Mental Health Awareness, Support Services, and Community Education.
Target Audience: Adults, families, and seniors in Wood Buffalo, with an emphasis on vulnerable populations and those from immigrant backgrounds.

Key Activities:
  • Mental Health Awareness Workshops: Covering topics like anxiety management, emotional intelligence, and self-care.
  • Community Seminars: Monthly sessions addressing mental health stigma and providing resources for ongoing support.
  • Partnerships with Local Organizations: Collaborate with local mental health agencies to broaden the reach of available resources.
Intended Outcomes:
  • Increased mental health awareness and reduced stigma within the community.
  • Improved access to mental health resources, especially for underrepresented groups.
  • Strengthened community bonds by addressing shared challenges and promoting collective well-being.

PROGRAM 2

United Youth Association

Focus: Youth Development and Leadership Training.
Target Audience: Youth aged 12-18 in Wood Buffalo.

Key Activities:
  • Leadership Workshops: Monthly sessions focused on developing essential leadership skills such as public speaking, decision-making, and teamwork.
  • Volunteer Opportunities: Engage youth in meaningful community service projects, such as community clean-ups and events.
  • Mentorship Programs: Match youth with community leaders to guide. them in their personal, academic, and career development.
Intended Outcomes:
  • Increased youth involvement in community service and civic engagement.
  • Improved leadership and interpersonal skills among participants.
  • Youth feeling empowered and confident in their ability to make a positive impact

Northern Light Sisters Foundation

Focus: Women’s Support, Empowerment, and Cultural Awareness.
Target Audience: Women and families in Wood Buffalo, with a focus on newcomers and marginalized groups.

Key Activities:
  • Cultural Awareness Events: Highlighting cultural heritage through workshops, storytelling, and art displays.
  • Wellness Workshops: Sessions on mental wellness, physical health, and self-care tailored specifically for women.
  • Community Building Initiatives: Regular gatherings for women to build friendships, share experiences, and support each other.
Intended Outcomes:
  • Enhanced understanding and appreciation of different cultures within the community.
  • Women feeling more supported, connected, and empowered.
  • Strengthened community networks that foster unity and mutual support.

Youth Writing Challenge: Breaking the Silence – what is happening in Palestine and its impact on Mental Health and Anxiety United Youth Markaz ul Islam is proud to announce the “Youth Writing Challenge: Breaking the Silence on what is happening in Gaza and its impact on Mental Health and Anxiety,” providing a platform for young individuals to express themselves creatively on the topic of mental health challenges facing today’s youth. This in-person challenge encourages participants to unleash their creativity through various writing formats, fostering dialogue and understanding around important mental health topics. 18 & Under
Harmony in Marriage: Rights, Responsibilities, and Resilience Northern Lights Sisters “Harmony in Marriage” is a transformative workshop designed to equip couples with the essential knowledge and skills to cultivate a thriving and resilient marriage. Through a blend of insightful lectures, interactive discussions, and practical exercises, participants will gain a deeper understanding of marital rights and responsibilities, effective communication strategies, and conflict resolution techniques. Hosted in both Arabic by Dr. Ameen and in English by Sheikh Murad, this workshop is facilitated in collaboration with the We Care Unit at Markaz ul Islam, underscoring the importance of mental health and support within marriages. Digital Resilience: Navigating Cyber Security and Mental Wellness United Youth Join us for an enlightening seminar on “Digital Resilience: Navigating Cyber Security and Mental Wellness.” We will explore the intricate relationship between cyber security and mental wellness, equipping participants with the knowledge and tools needed to protect themselves online while safeguarding their mental health in an increasingly digital world. 18 & Under

Prosper McMurray We Care Unit An event that brings working RMWB community members with students and youth to expose them to a variety of career paths by demonstrating the opportunities awaiting them. The event will include booths hosted by any working member in the community willing to display aspects of their working life and career paths. Prospective event attendees will visit the booths and engage with the displays to help foster a sense of curiosity and influence those who are looking to learn about the different paths they can take. Empower Her: Celebrating Sisterhood Northern Lights Sisters This empowering event brings together women from all walks of life to celebrate unity in diversity. It’s a space where women can connect, learn, and grow, fostering a supportive sisterhood that transcends differences in background, culture, and experience. The event will provide a platform for women to share stories, uplift one another, and embrace the power of diversity in driving personal and collective empowerment. All Ages
