RE: Statement

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

I am very saddened and disturbed by the attack on the Islamic Cultural Centre of Quebec City in Sainte-Foy that took the lives of innocent people while they are in their place of worship. I would like to offer my prayers to the victims and ask Almighty Allah to give their families and loved ones the patience to cope with this tragedy.

I would like to express my gratitude for all of the support that the local residents, leaders of organizations as well as faith groups have shown. Yesterday’s attack prompts a heightened awareness and concern for the safety and security of Muslims everywhere in Canada.

Markaz-Ul-Islam has contacted the local RCMP and they have assured us that they will be dispatching patrols to the mosque and to the Islamic school.

Please report any Islamophobic or suspicious behavior to the local RCMP.

In the meantime, I would like to invite you to participate in the Unity Walk on Wednesday February 1 at 4:30 pm. The Walk will start at the Jubilee Provincial Building (9909 Franklin Ave) and finishing at the Fort McMurray Mosque (Markaz-Ul-Islam), located at 9904 Gordon Avenue – see Facebook event page: https://www.facebook.com/events/688784701301170/

Yours Sincerely,
Mohammed-Ali Alzabidi, P. Eng.
